EMDR therapy

Some things stay stuck until they’re processed differently

At Creating Change LA, we specialize in providing EMDR therapy to address a range of traumatic events, including abuse, molestation, single incident traumas, ongoing trauma, and sexual trauma. As a team of Psychotherapists and Sex Therapists serving clients in Los Angeles and throughout California, we provide a safe, nonjudgmental environment where you can address these painful experiences without shame.

We utilize EMDR therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) as an evidence-based treatment model developed by Dr. Francine Shapiro with well-documented benefits for healing. Through bilateral stimulation, such as eye movements, tapping on the knees, or alternating vibrating pulsers, we facilitate deeper processing that allows the brain to better integrate painful experiences, helping you move forward with greater emotional freedom.

EMDR therapy can help in many ways

EMDR Therapy is ideal for individuals who have experienced limited progress or reached a plateau in traditional talk therapy. Ultimately, EMDR Therapy offers a powerful alternative for those seeking profound breakthroughs in their healing journey.

Our staff trained with the EMDR Institute for the general application of EMDR as well as with Dr Laurell Parnell to use EMDR Therapy with adults abused as children.

EMDR therapy for trauma

Applying EMDR Therapy to traumatic childhood experiences, abuse, and traumatic events can lead to great change. It is an effective tool in helping to heal sexual problems or for people who struggle with vulnerability and intimacy. If sexual trauma is creating barriers to intimacy for you, EMDR may help.

The brain is like the sky. Sometimes traumatic events create a cloud cover.
EMDR Therapy helps to burn the clouds away so that the sun can reemerge, and you can begin to think clearly again.

Frequently Asked Questions

We use this evidence based approach to help clients process and heal from traumatic life experiences. This includes sexual trauma, childhood abuse, single incident traumas like accidents, and ongoing stressors that have created negative belief patterns about yourself or the world.

We conduct sessions via a secure telehealth platform that allows you to engage in processing from the privacy of your home. We guide you through bilateral stimulation techniques such as self tapping or eye movements using your screen to facilitate the same effective results as in person therapy.

One of the primary benefits of this method is that you do not always need to discuss every specific detail of the traumatic event aloud. Instead we focus on the emotions, body sensations, and thoughts associated with the memory while the brain works to integrate and heal the experience.

This refers to the rhythmic left and right stimulation of the brain which is central to the EMDR process. During our online sessions we utilize methods like following an object on the screen with your eyes or tapping on your knees to help your brain reprocess stuck memories.

Yes. While we incorporate talk therapy elements to build safety and resources the processing phase involves less conversation and more internal focus. It is designed to help the brain physically move past “stuck” points rather than just analyzing them cognitively.

We are an out of network practice and do not bill insurance directly. However we can provide monthly superbills or submit claims electronically on your behalf if your insurance plan offers reimbursement for out of network mental health services.

Healing is a personalized process and there is no set number of sessions guaranteed to resolve trauma. We avoid promising quick fixes and instead work with you to establish a pace that feels safe and sustainable for your unique history and goals.

Yes. We spend the initial phase of treatment establishing safety, grounding techniques, and resources to ensure you feel stable before we begin deep processing. Being in your own comfortable environment in Los Angeles or California can often make this work feel more secure.

Absolutely. Many sexual dysfunctions or anxieties are rooted in past negative experiences or performance pressure. By processing these underlying memories we can help reduce the physical and emotional tension that impacts your current intimacy and sexual confidence.

The process begins with a 10 to 15 minute consultation call to ensure our practice is the right fit for your needs. If we determine we can help we will schedule your first session to begin gathering your history and preparing for the treatment process.
