As a Los Angeles Psychotherapist and Sex Therapist, I also offer EMDR Therapy to address traumatic events, abuse, and sexual “blocks.” EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing and was developed by Dr Francine Shapiro. EMDR Therapy is an 8 phase process in which bilateral stimulation (either through side-to-side eye movements, tapping left and right on the knees, or using alternating vibrating pulsers) is used to help the brain better integrate painful experiences. EMDR is an evidenced-based treatment model that has been studied and proven effective in the treatment of PTSD, trauma and single-incident traumas. I am trained in EMDR through the EMDR Institute for the general application of EMDR as well as AF-EMDR (Attachment Focused EMDR) through Dr Laurell Parnell to use EMDR Therapy with adults abused as children.
EMDR Therapy can be applied to traumatic childhood experiences, abuse, and traumatic events. I have also found it effective in helping to heal sexual problems or for people who struggle with emotional barriers to intimacy.
